This client's brief required something simply spectacular, "a full resort style pool with the lot, that fills the entire yard".
This pool won the SPASA "Presidents Choice Award" which made it one of Australia's best known swimming pools, having been featured on the cover of SPASA's annual magazine, and distributed to literally thousands of potential pool owners each year. It was also featured as a finalist on the popular Jamie Durie TV show "Australia's Best Backyards".
The tennis court was to be located at the lower end of the yard, and three levels of entertainment were requested. The middle area was to be used for the swimming pool and bar area, and the upper level for a billiard room and additional (and separate) bar. The pool requirement was to be a large 16m pool, with a good swimming lane, but access to the house from the tennis court also provided for. It also includes a "beach" access adjacent to the house.
Accessibility to all areas was vital, and a bridge was designed to link all three entertainment areas. The bridge crossing from the house area to the tennis court was essential, and becomes the central feature in this resort looking residential backyard.
One of the most novel features is that the tennis court is fully viewable from the "wetbar" inside the swimming pool itself. The billiard room is designed to provide viewing facilities to the tennis court also.
The pool has many features including waterfalls, beaches, bar areas, massive swimming lane, bridge, diving platforms, and a huge negative edge ("wet edge") that provides visual appeal from the tennis court level, and an infinity edge from inside the pool.
